About the Post Graduate Diploma in Labour Law
In December 2013 the UWC: Social Law Project (SLP), Faculty of Law, signed its first Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the CCMA undertaking to deliver a Post Graduate Diploma in Labour Dispute Resolution Practice. Endorsement from the CCMA means “recognition of the qualification by the Industry as a programme that will enhance the industrial relations/dispute resolution skills of trade unionists, industrial relations practitioners, human resource practitioners, legal practitioners and aspirant CCMA commissioners and Bargaining Council panelists”
Post Graduate Diploma (Labour Law)
NQF Level 8
Driven by our commitment to access and excellence, UWC became the first South African University to offer the PGDip in Labour Law: LDRP, and registered the first group of students in 2014.
Proudly UWC, students continue to be drawn from diverse backgrounds. Some operate within the labour relations field whilst others are attracted to the evolving and fascinating field of labour law. Our pass rate illustrates that an overwhelming majority of them can enter the field with confidence and, hopefully, help to change the current landscape of dispute resolution.
In as much as we are confident that we are delivering an important service, we believe that industry partners, including government, must seriously look at funding solutions to facilitate access to higher education for, amoungst others, Post graduate students from historically disadvantaged sections of our society.
A key strength of the programme is that, given its commitment to Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), the University has allowed access based on relevant training and work experience of many prospective candidates who do not meet the minimum requirement of a first/undergraduate degree. The Faculty Selection Committee remains mindful of the need to promote access, without compromising quality.
